Comments from George, Brenda and Steven C (August 2007)

I don't even know where to start.  It was scary for us to think about trusting an advertisement on Craig's List for an apartment half-way around the world, but once we started corresponding with you, we knew we were dealing with a very professional person who was willing to give us answers to any questions we asked.  Your packet of information about sights and restaurants in Paris was invaluable to us.

The driver you arranged for us met us at the airport and drove us to the apartment where we were met by your apartment manager.  Although she spoke no English and we speak no French, she was lovely and made every effort to show us what we needed to know about the apartment.

The neighborhood where the apartment is located is absolutely fantastic!  Its location to the Metro makes it close to anything in Paris.  We felt absolutely safe walking around at midnight.  There is an incredible amount of energy here, and the Rue de Passy has wonderful cafes and boutiques.

Upon arriving at the apartment, as we walked through the huge wooden front doors into the marble foyer, we had the feeling we were entering an aristocratic apartment building.  Since the apartment is on the ground floor, there are no stairs or elevators to negotiate.  The apartment itself is lovely.  The tall ceilings, wood floors and charming decor create a cozy and welcoming atmosphere.  The lovely windows on the front of the building allow plenty of light in the apartment.  We found the free Internet, free telephone to the U.S. and washer and dryer to be amenities we had nowhere else on our trip.  The kitchen is stocked with so many conveniences to make anyone's stay very comfortable.

Having the washer/dryer was such a treat for us.  It was the only time we were able to wash our clothes at our leisure during our entire trip.  We paid 24 euros in Monterosso, Italy to have two loads done for us - it saved me having to wait in the laundromat for several hours, so it was definitely worth it.

We have already recommended the apartment to fellow travelers who plan to visit Paris in the future.  My son would like to know if you would like for him to write to Rick Steves - Europe Through the Back Door to tell him about it.  It seemed to us that every American or Canadian we met in Europe was carrying his books.  If you are not aware of him, he has a program on Public Television, and is an incredible source of information about anything in Europe.

The only suggestion we have about the apartment is that with it being on the ground floor, people tend to peer into the windows.  It seems that the frosted glass in the lower set of windows should avoid this, but taller people can still see into the apartment.  Perhaps another twelve inches or so of frosting on the glass would solve this issue, while still allowing enough light to enter the apartment.

We would like to thank you again for all your assistance and your kindness from our first communication nearly a year ago, throughout our stay in the apartment, to now.  Our stay in your apartment was one of the highlights of our trip to Europe!

Our best wishes

Sincerely,

George, Brenda and Steven C
